The Council was established in 1958 by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate to ensure that its examinations become adapted to the educational needs of the country and assign the ultimate control of the same on the Council. The Council was registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1660 on 19 December, 1967.

St. Joseph Group of Institutions got its affiliation to Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (ICSE), New Delhi in the year 2004 and further in the year 2006 for ISC. St. Joseph college, sitapur road received its affiliation in the year 2016. The teachers and students of the institution have strived hard to achieve 100% result, consecutively for the last four academic sessions.
